As Mayor of the greatest city on the face of the Earth, I have chosen to support a cause that holds a special place in my heart: Space Coast Discovery. Since 1987, this exceptional non-profit school has been a cornerstone of our community, providing education, therapies, and life skills training for children with developmental challenges such as autism, Down syndrome, ADHD, and other special needs.
Space Coast Discovery’s dedication to individualized, child-centered learning ensures every student has the opportunity to thrive. With a remarkable 1-to-5 staff-to-student ratio and a curriculum blending traditional academics with essential therapies, the school empowers students to overcome challenges, develop independence, and achieve success.
Currently, Space Coast Discovery serves 138 students equally divided between Palm Bay and Melbourne, supported by an extraordinary team of 54 staff members. In early 2025, the school will open a new facility with three classrooms, enabling them to serve an additional 40 students. Their ambitious vision includes a state-of-the-art 30,000-square-foot facility dedicated to the memory of long-time supporters Tim and Stacy Wakefield and a new science center to integrate STEM education into their curriculum.
