Ryan Shrives - From International Hockey to Medevac Pilot
Ryan Shrives grew up in South Africa, where he represented his country in both outdoor and indoor field hockey at the U16, U18, U21, and senior levels. He earned his first senior international cap in 1997 at just 19 years old and was selected for the South African squad for the 2000 Sydney Olympics. Unfortunately, the team was withdrawn due to political decisions at the time.
After his international hockey career, Ryan joined the South African Air Force, serving as a helicopter pilot for 12 years. Now a proud Canadian citizen, he lives in Medicine Hat, Alberta with his wife and two children. He continues to serve others as a medevac helicopter pilot with HALO Air Ambulance.
