Lines Against Silence—Writing Your Protest Poem

On Saturday we gather to write protest and political poems—not as experts, but as neighbors. Poetry is one of the oldest tools for refusing silence, resisting intimidation, and preserving human dignity. We’ll work with simple techniques such as: naming, direct address, satire, praise and dispraise, spells, and collective voice. There is no wrong way to participate. You can write one line or a whole page. All writing is optional and all sharing is voluntary.

In response to the national “Fall of Freedom” call to action, Arts Collaborative Medford invites community members to a free, open workshop on writing protest poems and political poems. Together we’ll explore creative tools for resisting censorship, naming harm, and speaking courageously in a moment of danger for our democracy. All levels welcome—no poetry experience needed. We’ll offer short prompts, time to write, and an optional circle for sharing.
