About the event

Standing with Our Immigrant Neighbors
This free public event will take place on Saturday, August 23, 2025, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Mechanicsburg, 626 Williams Grove Rd, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055.

Cumberland Valley is home to more than 14,000 foreign-born residents. For many in this community, personal safety is a significant concern. This event is designed to empower community members, social justice organizers, advocates, and legal and medical professionals to support a more inclusive and welcoming society. Attendees will learn how to:

- Engage in advocacy and peaceful resistance to promote change.
- Understand complex immigration laws and policies to better inform their actions.
- Respectfully engage in conversations, address misinformation and show solidarity.
- Share "Know Your Rights" information to empower others.
- Safely and effectively document public events to ensure transparency.

Local legal experts and advocates will provide essential information and guidance. Speakers include:

- John Leedock, Jr., Executive Director and Attorney at Compass Immigration Legal Services
- Shamaine Daniels, CASA Pennsylvania State Director
- William Braught, Family Immigration Attorney at Andrews, Johnson & Braught
- Durre Sharif, Associate Director of Programs and Community Engagement at Church World Service

A social hour for refreshments and the opportunity to network with local organizations will follow the program.

Our sister organizations in this work include Capital Region Stands Up (PA Stands Up); Our ally in this effort is Hope Station Carlisle.
