AUDITIONS: MRT's production of "Barefoot in the Park"

MRT is having auditions on June 2nd and 3rd, 2025, for their upcoming production of Neil Simon’s “Barefoot in the Park”. Auditions are open to all and will occur at McKinney Performing Arts Center (MPAC) from 7:00 to 9:00 PM (please arrive at 6:30pm to sign in) on both evenings.

Neil Simon’s "Barefoot in the Park" centers on Paul and Corie Bratter, two newlyweds in every sense of the word. He’s a straight-as-an-arrow lawyer, and she’s a free spirit always looking for the latest kick. Their new apartment is her most recent find – too expensive with bad plumbing and in need of a paint job. After a six-day honeymoon, they get a surprise visit from Corie’s loopy mother and decide to play matchmaker during a dinner with their neighbor-in-the-attic, Velasco, where everything that can go wrong does. Paul just doesn’t understand Corie, as she sees it. He’s too staid, too boring, and she just wants him to be a little more spontaneous. Running “barefoot in the park” would be a start…

CAST OF CHARACTERS:
Corie Bratter – lovely, 20-30, free spirit and with hope for the future, newlywed to Paul
Paul Bratter – lawyer, 25-35, newlywed to Corie
Mrs. Banks (Mother) – Corie’s mother, late 40s-65, pretty, has not looked after herself these last few years
Victor Velasco – neighbor in the attic, 40-70
Telephone Repair Man – tall, heavy-set man, 25-45
Delivery Man – early 60s

Please arrive between 6:30-7:00 PM to sign in and complete the paperwork.
Headshots and resumes are welcome, however are not required.
Advance sign-ups for specific times will be available and will open up soon, but are not required.

We are committed to diverse casting and all roles are open for audition. All roles are volunteer-only and are not paid.


VIDEO AUDITION:
For those unable to attend auditions but interested in participating in the show, alternative arrangements can be made by emailing YXVkaXRpb25zbXJ0IHwgZ21haWwgISBjb20= and submitting a video audition (2-minute dramatic or comedic monologue). All video auditions must be received by: Sunday, June 1st. Note: You may also be asked to record a callback.


REHEARSALS:
First Rehearsal/Read Through: June 8th at 1 PM
REHEARSALS: Rehearsals will be held from June 9th through July 18th on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays from 6:30 PM - 9:30 PM and Sundays from 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM.

TECH WK REHEARSALS: July 21 - 25 from 6:30 PM - 10 PM
DRESS REHEARSAL: Thursday, July 26th at 6:30 PM
