Take a musical journey across generations with the West Hills Symphonic Band on Sunday, February 22nd at 3:00 PM at Montour High School as we present our Winter Concert: Reflections Through Time, a concert celebrating the rich traditions, enduring classics, and evolving voices of the wind band repertoire.
The program features CANZONA by Pennsylvania composer Peter Mennin, a landmark work of the modern band repertoire, alongside two favorites from the iconic West Side Story: COOL and GEE, OFFICER KRUPKE, bursting with Leonard Bernstein’s unique rhythm, energy, and Broadway flair.
We also begin our year-long celebration of America’s 250th birthday with patriotic classics including BROAD STRIPES AND BRIGHT STARS and John Philip Sousa’s rousing march YORKTOWN CENTENNIAL, written to commemorate the hundredth anniversary of the last important battle of the Revolutionary War: the surrender at Yorktown.
Finally, we are thrilled to welcome Honorary Member and Conductor Emeritus Clem Rolin back to the podium to lead the band in THE MERRY WIVES OF WINDSOR OVERTURE, a favorite orchestral transcription from Otto Nicolai's 1849 opera.
Join us for an afternoon of music that honors the past, celebrates the present, and looks ahead to the future. As always, our concerts are FREE and open to the public. We can’t wait to share this performance with you!
