Sean nós singing (literally old style) is an ancient Irish tradition that goes back as far as we do as a people, but what can it tell us of the modern Irish experience?
Through a captivating soundscape, dynamic short film projections, and evocative oil-on-canvas displays, fiddle player, sean nós singer, academic and broadcaster, Doireann Ní Ghlacáin will bring attendees on an immersive journey that will invite all to 'step inside the song' by re-imagining the ancient tradition of sean nós song and exploring what it can tell us of modern Ireland.
Featuring ten iconic songs from the tradition, expect to be taken on a grand odyssey across the length and breadth of Ireland, traversing its rich cultural landscape and drawing respectively from the traditions of Munster, Leinster, Connacht, and Ulster.
By translating and reimagining the epic tales of sean nós songs, from Irish to English for contemporary audiences, and bridging the past and present, a vibrant celebration of Irish cultural heritage is in store.
