The programme brings together two late-19th-century masterpieces that approach the human experience from strikingly different angles.
Dvořák’s Symphony No. 9, “From the New World” was written during his time in the United States and reflects his fascination with American landscapes and musical traditions, filtered through his unmistakably Czech voice. Bold, rhythmic, and richly melodic, the symphony moves from drama and energy to moments of deep nostalgia, capturing both a sense of discovery and longing for home.
By contrast, Fauré’s Requiem turns inward. Rather than focusing on fear or judgment, Fauré offers a vision of death marked by calm, consolation, and luminous beauty. Its restrained intensity and gentle lyricism create a timeless atmosphere of peace, providing a serene and reflective counterbalance to Dvořák’s expansive symphonic journey.
The choir will also sing a selections of choral favourites.
