Join Rick Collins and his crew from Firmitas Timber Works of Galesburg, IL as they repair two log buildings at Lincoln Log Cabin. On the Lincoln barn, they will demonstrate cutting joinery and replacing two bad logs. They will discuss restoration strategy, finishes, and chinking (or not). Attendees will watch work being performed and hear discussion of preplanning, scanning, drawing, preparing bid documents, and more.
Also covered will be how to label a log building for dismantle, possible repair strategies for a log smoke house such as lifting of and installing a foundation under the existing building and discussions of sourcing proper materials, appropriate hewing finishes, and various corner connections in use throughout the Midwest.
Attendees are encouraged to ask questions, share personal experiences. Lively discussion and conversation will be encouraged.
