Ranching & Conservation in Namibia

What can we learn about conservation from other parts of the world? It turns out – a lot! The public is invited to take a fascinating “trip” to Africa with gorgeous photography and firsthand accounts in a unique Pioneer Bluffs Prairie Talk on “Ranching and Conservation in Namibia.”
Located in southern Africa, Namibia is one of the least densely populated countries in the world, with vast rangelands, cattle ranches, and diverse wildlife. Like Kansas, much of its land is privately owned ranchland.
Guests will “travel” with Ryan and Ron Klataske to this unique part of the world, while exploring the similarities and differences between Namibia’s ranching heritage and conservation culture with the Flint Hills.
Drawing on their travels together and Ryan’s immersive anthropological research, the Klataskes will share striking photography and stories of how Namibian ranchers have developed innovative conservation partnerships—revealing unexpected connections between ranching in southern Africa and Kansas.
