The Trump Administration released a statement saying they are now targeting Somalian residents of Minnesota via citizenship status and through potential ICE detention.
The Guardian reported Saturday, Nov 22, "Donald Trump said on Friday night that he was “immediately” terminating temporary legal protections for Somali migrants living in Minnesota, further targeting a program seeking to limit deportations that his administration has already repeatedly sought to weaken.
Minnesota has the nation’s largest Somali community. Many fled the long civil war in the east African country and were drawn to the state’s welcoming social programs."
It's clear from Trump's statements that this is in retaliation to Minnesota threatening his policies and fighting back against his fascism. The Guardian also reported, "The president announced his decision on his social media site, suggesting that Minnesota was 'a hub of fraudulent money laundering activity'."
While the threatened citizenship status is only set to potentially impact about 700 citizens in Minnesota, this is 700 people too many. These types of fear tactics are oppressive tools meant to silence dissent.
But we will not be silent.
Stand in solidarity with our Somalian neighbors.
