With a strong reception to their first album Hot As Buggery (Half A Cow) 2023 the Golden Gaytimes built a reputation for hugely entertaining live shows, at bars, clubs, and pubs across Australia's eastern states, regaling audiences with their brand of fun and irreverent rock and pop. Like a glitter bomb with a rock 'n' roll heart of gold, they're a band driven by the understanding that great music is made with liberal measures of both spook and wonk.
The gang of party starters are back with their new album Bung It On.
Like Aussie rock 'n' roll with a mirror ball, The Golden Gaytimes create a festive atmosphere on Bung It On, with songs addressing things such as the cost of living crisis, various love songs referencing dodgems, fairy floss, a Gravitron ('I'm Not Going Anywhere') and holograms on the Pacific Highway ('Lonely Tones'). There's the ADD of 'Appetite for Distraction', and a celebration of the variety of life on the pop culture-referencing 'U Do U'.
From Muswellbrook to Murrurundi, Bondi to Rio, there's a kaleidoscopic quality to the songs as they try to make sense of the weird and wonderful world around us, as the band explain. "The original title for Bung It On was 'Selected Musings on the Logical and Ideological Inconsistencies in the Immediate Tense' which to be fair is a more accurate if less precise summation of the album’s thematic preoccupations."
