Vernal Pool Patrol Program Information
The Vernal Pool Patrol (VPP) is a statewide program for community scientists and educators who want to participate in vernal pool conservation. The VPP is managed by Michigan Natural Features Inventory, a program of MSU Extension, and supported by over 25 local program coordinators who work with adult and youth volunteers to identify, map, and monitor vernal pools. Information on the status, distribution, and ecology of vernal pools is submitted to the Michigan Vernal Pool Database. The database is shared to help inform and guide the management and conservation of vernal pools, associated plants, and animals in Michigan.
Your Organization Program Information
Anna Ellis is a Forestry and Natural Resources Educator with MSU Extension and is a local program coordinator with the Vernal Pool Patrol. Anna unfortunately will not be in attendance at the event but is a great resource for helping you get started mapping or monitoring pools in the Marquette area. The Upper Peninsula Land Conservancy ( https://www.uplandconservancy.org/) is our gracious host and will be allowing us to lead the field training at one of their nature preserves in the Marquette area. If you’d like to continue monitoring in one of UPLC’s nature preserves, please connect with Em Staat, about their volunteer program.
