The MARIEMONT Theatre and Cindependent presents THE TREE OF LIFE (2011) w/ Father's Mountains (Short Film)
Join Cindependent for a screening of Terrence Malick's Tree of Life. The screening will be preceded by a special presentation of the short film, Father's Mountains, which was featured in the 2024 Cindependent Film Festival!

Tree of Life, one of Terrence Malick's most iconic films, is an experimental epic that won the Palme d'Or in 2011. "Four decades into an already legendary career, Terrence Malick realized his most rapturous vision to date, tracing a story of childhood, wonder, and grief to the outer limits of time and space." - Criterion

Father's Mountains (11min, animated drama) is a short film from Chinese director Tan Xiaojun. It is a poignant tale about home as belonging, which explores the profound metaphorical significance of father and mountain. This short is a perfect companion to Tree of Life, as both films are centered around memory, and specifically memory of one's father.

The impressionistic story of a Texas family in the 1950s. The film follows the life journey of the eldest son, Jack, through the innocence of childhood to his disillusioned adult years as he tries to reconcile a complicated relationship with his father. Jack finds himself a lost soul in the modern world, seeking answers to the origins and meaning of life while questioning the existence of faith.
