Water, the source of all life, is our most precious resource. When Nixie, a Finnish water sprite, comes Out of the Water, the Green World is almost destroyed. Will the Queen be released from the monster? Can the Dragonflies fulfill their quest?
Nixie is an original operetta inspired by the Kalevala, the epic poem and creation story of Finland. Nixie was written and composed by Cass County creatives Ruth Andrews and Bev Smith, in consultation with Hilary-Joy Virtanen, Kalevala scholar.
The Nixie Team received a grant from Finlandia Foundation National and is delighted to collaborate with Flyover Art to bring the operetta to fruition. In addition to Andrews and Smith, the team includes choreographer Chris Rodda, stage manager Fritz Kucklick, filmmaker Justin Wiley and photographer Kay Westhues.
Nixie will be performed in two venues: August 8 & 9 at Patch and Remington, 115 E Main, Marcellus, MI at 7 pm, and at Acting Ensemble, 602 E Mishawaka Ave, Mishawaka, IN on August, 29-31. The Friday and Saturday performances are at 7:30, and the Sunday matinee is at 2. Reservations are not necessary.
Donations will be accepted at the door. For more information contact Ruth Andrews, 269-519-4589.
