About the event

Civil War Living History & Skirmish
Confederate Memorial Park, a historic property of the Alabama Historical Commission, will host a special living history event from Friday, April 25 - Sunday, April 27. Using authentically reconstructed Civil War barracks, living historians will present outdoor demonstrations on a variety of topics including weapons, flags, civilian life, cooking, and veterans’ life at the Alabama Confederate Soldiers’ Home.

• Friday, April 25, is dedicated to school groups. Please contact the museum to register your class or home school.

• Saturday, April 26 is open to the general public and includes living history demonstrations from 9:00 am – 12:00 pm, a live performance by musician Bobby Horton at noon, and an afternoon skirmish starting around 1:30 pm.

• Sunday, April 27 is free of charge and will include a church service at 10:00 am and a cemetery ceremony to follow.

Admission during the living history days is $2 per person and admission to the museum is an additional $2. For additional information, call the museum at 205-755-1990.

The Marbury Volunteer Fire Department and other vendors will be on site selling food and refreshments.

Confederate Memorial Park is located at 437 County Road 63, Marbury, AL 36051. Attendees should enter through the South gate located closest to Hwy 143.

Spread over 102 acres of rolling wooded countryside near the center of the state, Confederate Memorial Park incorporates the site of Alabama’s only Confederate veterans’ home. Life for the old soldiers, called “inmates” at the Home, was better than most had known before their admission. The Home provided housing, meals, clothing, allowances, medical care and, for many, a place to die and be buried with dignity. The museum offers exhibits on the life of an Alabama Confederate veteran from recruitment to old age, including hundreds of artifacts from the Civil War and the Soldiers' Home.
