Join us for a safe mushroom and Tree Nut foraging program on Thursday, September 4th the Jackson County Extension office (1102 E Quarry St., Maquoketa, IA 52060) from 5:30-7:30pm. The cost of attendance is $15, which includes the cost of books and handouts you will receive (payments can be made prior to the program).
Gina Buelow, Natural Resources Field Specialist with ISU Extension and Outreach, will discuss what fungi are, the basics of mushroom identification, and how to forage safely and responsibly. She will also discuss common seasonal edible mushrooms.
Jessica Wagner with Jackson County Conservation will present ideas on tree nut foraging, discussing tree ID, how to harvest, and ways to use them.
This program is open to the public and is geared toward Iowans who either already are foraging or are interested in trying new ways to engage with the outdoors.
This program is not part of the Wild Mushroom Identification Certification, also operated by ISU Extension and Outreach, which is a needed credential to sell wild harvested mushrooms.
