Join us for an evening with sculptor Kim Perrier on Sunday 13th July at 5.30pm to celebrate the launch of the Carbonature website: www.carbonature.com.
Back in 2015, “Ashes to Ashes” won the People’s Choice Award at Bondi’s Sculpture by the Sea, just after the devastating fires across NSW and down to Canberra. Kim spent nine days standing beside his sculpture, speaking with people who shared their fire stories—some in tears. Even the Sculpture by the Sea team were surprised. “You stayed every day to talk with visitors?” they asked. Yes, and he’d do it again. Because when you see charcoal faces, it hits you—there’s something ancient and raw about carbon. Something universal. Something human.
The soul of a burnt tree, the carbon from our own bodies, the shared experience of life and death it’s all there in that dark shimmer. Somehow, it speaks to people. It awakens stories. It reminds us of who we are. Those of you who have experienced the ‘Rising from the Ashes’ series in Northcliffe’s Understory Art and Nature Trail will feel this.
And now, Kim has built a vault of over 120 learning resources that bring together carbon, water, air, science, environment, literature, music, and creative expression. It’s becoming a School of the Air, Water, and Carbon a space where people from anywhere in the world can dive into this powerful idea. Kim is looking for Carbonature Ambassadors—creative people, teachers, parents, community builders, environmentalists, techies, learners, and lovers of life—anyone who wants to be part of a movement rooted in carbon, community, and creativity. Come along to share Kim’s vision.
