🤩 Level 3: Int/Adv | FRIDAYS 7:30pm
For dancers looking to refine their West Coast Swing, this class focuses on movement quality, connection, and creative expression. Students will be encouraged to elevate their awareness of their bodies and connection, and to discover their own stylistic preferences for approaching the dance. Through targeted drills and challenging patterns, we’ll use technique as a tool to explore what defines a confident, musical, and versatile West Coast Swing dancer.
Prerequisites:
Students wishing to join the 301 Level should be able demonstrate the following skills -
✅ TIMING: Able to stay consistently on time with the music.
✅ WEIGHT TRANSFER: Comfortable and controlled weight shifts throughout movement.
- Ex: Understanding of partial, full, delayed weight transfers
✅ FRAME: Maintain a consistent, communicative frame during all patterns.
- Ex: Smoothly transition between compression and extension
✅ MUSICALITY: Able to count music. Show basic musical interpretation in dancing.
- Ex: Ability to groove to a variety of music, acknowledge phrase changes
✅ FOOTWORK & RHYTHM: Comfortable using fundamental rhythm and footwork variations.
- Ex: brush step, ronde, hitches, ball changes
✅ PATTERN EXECUTION: Confidently lead or follow with precision and comfort all basic patterns, with extensions and single variations. Full pattern list:
