We’re proud to present Textured Expression, a powerful solo exhibition by emerging artist Jasmine Bevan, opening 21-22June. Through an evocative mix of tufted textiles, select paintings, and ceramics, Bevan offers an intimate exploration of how emotion can be felt—and understood—through texture, colour, and material.
At the heart of Textured Expression lies a compelling question: What does emotion feel like, beyond what we see? In this body of work, Bevan challenges conventional representations of feeling, suggesting that happiness doesn’t always feel light, and that sadness can be soft, warm, even beautiful.
Tufting, the central medium of the exhibition, is used not just for its tactile quality but for its ability to invite physical and emotional connection. Each piece is meant to be experienced not only visually, but sensorially—encouraging visitors to engage with their full selves.
“This is the proudest I’ve ever been of a body of work,” says Bevan. “Textured Expression marks a turning point in my practice. It reflects not only my deepening relationship with tufting, but also my commitment to using it as a way to communicate honestly and vulnerably.”
Textured Expression is an invitation to slow down, to feel deeply, and to consider that emotions, like art, often speak loudest through subtle, tactile truths.
