Breathworks is a UK registered charity dedicated to helping people live well with pain, illness and stress through mindfulness and compassion. Founded by Vidyamala Burch based on her own experience of living with chronic pain, Breathworks has grown into a globally respected organisation delivering evidence-based programmes.
Our approach combines mindfulness meditation, body awareness, and compassion practices to help people develop skills for managing physical and emotional challenges. All our programmes are delivered by specially trained and accredited teachers who bring both expertise and personal experience to their teaching.
We believe mindfulness should be accessible to everyone, which is why we offer a range of formats and financial support options. When you join a Breathworks event, you're not only investing in your own wellbeing, but helping us bring these transformative practices to others who might otherwise be unable to access them.
Mindfulness isn't just about paying attention—it's about how we do it. This retreat focuses on cultivating awareness with care, exploring the attitudes that shape how we meet each moment.
Over two days, we'll delve into Jon Kabat-Zinn's nine attitudinal foundations of mindfulness, with a special focus on trust, acceptance, and gratitude. Through guided practice, we'll explore how these qualities can deepen awareness, help us navigate challenges, and make mindfulness more sustainable in daily life.
The weekend includes guided meditation, group reflection, teaching sessions, mindful movement, and time to connect with others on the path. It's a thoughtfully designed programme to help steady your mind, open your heart, and meet life's challenges with balance.
An urban retreat offers the depth and connection of an in-person retreat, but with greater flexibility. The teaching days take place at Luther King House, Manchester, while your evenings are free to spend however you choose.
This weekend format is perfect for those new to retreat experiences—it's immersive enough to experience the benefits but flexible enough to feel manageable for first-timers or those with responsibilities at home.
You'll follow a thoughtfully designed schedule that balances structure with flexibility. Our experienced teachers will guide you every step of the way, making the practices accessible whether you're new to meditation or have an established practice. The atmosphere is warm, inclusive and non-judgmental—there's no "right way" to experience a retreat.
Many people find that even a short retreat offers a refreshing perspective and valuable skills they can bring back to daily life.

Inclusivity and accessibility is at the heart of all Breathworks events. We include frequent breaks in our schedule, recognising their importance for those navigating health challenges. While we encourage you to attend as much of the programme as possible for maximum benefit, we fully support you making intentional, wise decisions for your body and needs.
Located in the vibrant city of Manchester, Luther King House offers a peaceful space to immerse yourself in mindfulness practice while remaining connected to the urban environment. The venue provides comfortable meeting spaces, an on-site canteen, and is easily accessible by public transport.
With an urban retreat, you arrange and pay for your own accommodation. This gives you the flexibility to choose what works best for your needs and budget—whether that's a nearby hotel, an Airbnb, or returning home each evening if you're local.
Breathworks is a UK registered charity with a mission to make mindfulness accessible to everyone. When you purchase a ticket for one of our events, you are not only investing in your own wellbeing, but paying it forward to someone else in need. All profits are reinvested to support our charitable work, helping us cover essential costs like staff, operations, and expanding our impact.
We trust our participants to assess their eligibility honestly and ask you to consider the Standard Rate if you possibly can, to keep our offering sustainable. If you have any questions or would like to discuss your situation, please contact us here.
