After the disappointing cancellation of the 2024 NAME Rally, Urmston and District MES are determined to make the 2025 event a resounding success. We kindly ask club secretaries to share this announcement widely among your members and encourage attendance—whether as spectators or, more importantly, as participants in this exciting event. If participating then let us know soon (see below) and remember as usual to bring your boiler test certificate as appropriate and a copy of your club insurance certificate.
A Premier Track Experience
Our raised 3.5" and 5" track is fully signaled, features 15 steaming bays, and at 2,175ft, is one of the longest in the country. With its challenging curves, cuttings, and gradients, it offers an engaging experience for drivers of all skill levels. As a testament to its quality, the track hosted IMLEC in 2016, with many videos available online showcasing the event.
More Than Just a Railway
While our miniature railway is the heart of UDMES, we aim to involve the entire model engineering community. There will be a dedicated running area for miniature road locomotives, a marquee for static models, and space for boats and aircraft displays. Whether you’re an exhibitor, driver, or simply a passionate enthusiast, there’s a role for everyone at this rally.
Welcoming All Enthusiasts
We warmly welcome societies and individuals, including those who may not have participated in previous NAME rallies. This event is an excellent opportunity to connect with like-minded enthusiasts, showcase your skills, and enjoy the camaraderie of the model engineering community. The rally is a family-friendly event, offering something for all ages to enjoy. It’s a fantastic day out for enthusiasts and their families alike, with plenty to see and do.
Convenient Location and Amenities
Urmston and District MES is conveniently located in Urmston, Manchester (M41 5DH) with excellent motorway access (M60) and good bus and rail links. On-site car parking is available, and for those traveling from further afield, there are several hotels within a mile, as well as a nearby caravan and camping site.
It is anticipated that there will be some commercial mobile catering available, alternatively bring your own food 🥪and we will provide tea/coffee/soft drinks ☕. We'll update you about these details nearer the time.
