Gardens open for charity - The Shakespearean Garden, Platt Fields Park Manchester, M14 6LA

The concept of a Shakespearean Garden was first developed in Victorian England with the idea of creating a garden with some, or all, of the trees and flowers mentioned in the Bard’s works. With strong links to the suffrage movement and Edwardian society our garden opened in 1922 and was rescued from near obscurity by volunteers 4 years ago.
Set within Platt Fields Park, this sunken, walled garden is in a glorious, secluded spot surrounded by magnificent trees; a real life secret garden just off the busy Wilmslow Road corridor. The main garden is laid out in 4 rectangular quadrants with neat paths delineating each area; an Elizabethan style parterre. There is an Elizabethan style parterre and a human sunclock.

Tea, coffee and cake.
Toilet at the Lakeside Centre near the car park, approximately 5-10 minute walk from the garden.
There are 2 entrances into the garden; one down steps, but the entrance on the East side is sloped. There are wide paths inside the garden.
The garden is situated off Wilmslow Road, down Mabfield Rd.
There is a car park in the park near the Mabfield Road entrance; if that is full people can park on the streets near the park entrance.
