Fangs
Egypt 1981
Language: Arabic with English subtitles
Director: Mohammed Shebl
Cast: Ahmed Adawiyya, Ali El Haggar, Mona Gabr, Hasan El Emam
When Ali and Mona’s car breaks down on their way to a party, they seek refuge from the storm at a nearby house. Unbeknown to them, they have arrived on a rather special night, at a rather unusual house. For tonight is the vampires gala, organised by disco-dancing flamboyant Count Dracula himself (with the support of his hunchback servant). Trapped, Ali and Mona must endure a night of singing, dancing, face paint, horror masks, blood-sucking, and thinly veiled camp. Will they survive unsoiled?
Sound familiar? Yes, of course it does, after all, this is a not-so-loose reworking of The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Egyptian style, with brazen transvestism replaced with vampirism (and a Dracula back-story) but still retaining a camp sensibility. There’s song and dance, face paint and fangs, disco and blood, and a pompous narrator to keep us all on track. It’s Rocky Horror, but not as we know it!
Note: this feature does have English subtitles with the exception of one song.
The feature will be supported by a short programme of comedy horror film trailers.
