Inspired by the current Turner exhibition, 'Light and Shade', Andrea Kim will be playing two suites for solo 'cello, the Suite No 4 by JS Bach and Benjamin Britten's Suite No 1.
Andrea’s musical journey started from the time she was able to place fingers on the piano at the age of three. Born and raised in New York, she grew up in a culturally enriched environment that allowed her to explore the infinite possibilities of the arts.
A versatile musician, Andrea enjoys performing in solo, chamber, and orchestral engagements. Recent solo appearances include a performance of the Elgar Cello Concerto with the Burnley Orchestra and lunchtime concerts at Wesley Church. She has also won the Sir John Barbirolli Memorial Cello Prize at the RNCM, placed 2nd Prize in the NJS Korean Young Artist Competition, and was named Merit Winner for YoungArts. Andrea has had the privilege to work with Sally Beamish for her solo cello work, ‘Gala Water’ which was performed at the RNCM for their In-Focus Series. She has appeared in masterclasses with Gábor Takács-Nagy, Natasha Brofsky, Bongshin Ko, Eduardo Vassallo, and Paul Katz.
Andrea’s most recent chamber engagements include appearances at Wigmore Hall, Crosby Hall, the Knighton Concert Society, and the RNCM. In the 2024-2025 season, Andrea made appearances in the Hallé Orchestra under the Halle/RNCM Advanced Orchestral String Programme and was awarded the Charles Hallé Award at the end of the year.
Andrea has graduated with her Bachelor's Degree in Classical Cello Performance at the Manhattan School of Music, her Master’s Degree from the Royal Northern College of Music, and will be receiving a Post-Graduate Diploma from the RNCM this winter.
