Blessing of the Animals
Sunday, November 23rd, 2025
Worship Service 10:30-11:30am and Blessing of the Animals immediately following in the courtyard. All are invited!
The Blessing of the Animals is an old tradition, dating back to Saint Francis of Assisi, a Roman Catholic friar from the 13th Century. He was known to preach to the birds of the air and communicate with wolves.
Through this practice of recognizing and blessing our pets, we witness to God’s and the Church’s love, care, and concern for creation. And for those of us with animal companions, we are reminded to be grateful and take care of them as we take care of ourselves, for they are gifts from God.
We also know how meaningful our stuffed animals can be! They are our companions through childhood, and sometimes even to this very day. You are welcome to bring your cozy, crafted, companions for a blessing as well!
You are encouraged to bring your beloved pets to worship that day. The blessings will immediately follow the service in the courtyard. After the blessing, you will receive a certificate showing that your pet has been blessed.
All animals are welcome: birds, fish, rats, lizards, dogs, cats, ponies, tigers, woolly mammoths…. however, please keep your furry or scaly family member on a leash or in a traveling case. We look forward to all God’s creatures joining together!
