What is mindfulness?
Mindfulness is the practice of being fully present — not lost in the past, not anxious about the future, but right here in this moment. It's about paying attention — gently, without judgment — to what's happening inside us and around us. It is only when we are fully present, and not lost in thought, that we can centre in the presence of our Being, our true self and inner source of calm, clarity and compassion. And what better way to explore the precious present moment and our presence than through live, improvised music? When we improvise, we don’t follow a script. We respond — to each breath, to each sound, to each silence.
Every note you’ll hear is born in the now, shaped by the space, the energy in the room and your presence. The handpan, with its warm and resonant tones, naturally invites a sense of calm. Its vibrations echo like ripples in still water, gently grounding us. Paired with the spacious textures of keyboard, the music becomes a journey inward — allowing space for reflection, ease, and connection. Jen Hill will gently guide the session, offering moments ofmindfulness, breath awareness, and somatic connection — helping you tune into your inner landscape as the music unfolds around you. You’re invited to simply listen, breathe, and feel. No effort. No goal. Just presence.
This one-hour session will be guided by:

Tony Hole is a multi-instrumentalist and improviser. Piano is his first instrument, having learnt classical piano as a child. He came to percussion through West African drumming (studying in Ghana), and Indian drumming (studying in south India). Tony found a particularresonance with the handpan, a remarkable 21st century instrument made from steel. He plays handpan within a number of performance ensembles as well as for accompanying dance, yoga, meditation, wellness practices and ritual.
Vincent Ong is a Malaysian-born, Adelaide-based pianist, accompanist, Guzheng player (traditional Chinese instrument), and music educator. Vincent is also an accredited TRE (Tension & Trauma ReleasingExercises) provider and brings together his experience in music, mindfulness, and somatic practices to support well-being and inner connection.
Note: Chairs will be provided but you’re welcome to bring a yoga mat if you’d like to lie down and relax... wear something comfortable and bring a bottle of water if you need one.
