At present, more than 60 million people in the EU live with cardiovascular diseases (CVD) which remain the main cause of death and disability in Europe, accounting for over €282 billion in healthcare expenditure in the EU every year. The upcoming EU Cardiovascular Health Plan to be published by the European Commission in 2025 signal a much welcome political commitment towards improving CVH n Europe.
Building on this momentum, this policy discussion aims to provide a platform for discussions between EU and national-level stakeholders to explore how the upcoming EU CVH Plan will help tackling CVH in Europe, reduce mortality and morbidity, and improve the quality of life of people living with or at risk of CVD.
This event aims to provide the cardiovascular community with a platform to explore how best to cater EU-level action to the unmet needs of the cardiovascular community and ensure that the upcoming EU CVH Plan includes the right tools to support the communities and the Member States in tackling CVH. The event will also see the participation of representatives of the national Health Ministries, to draw on national best practices and on the learnings of countries that have recently developed national cardiovascular health plans or other strategies to tackle CVH.
The event will be moderated by Neil Johnson, Executive Director of Global Heart Hub. Confirmed speakers include Eirini Agapidaki, Alternate Minister of Health, Greece, Prof. Przemysław Mitkowski, Poznan University of Medical Sciences, Kitti Almer, Policy Advisor, FH Europe Foundation and Former Health Attache at the Permanent Representation of Hungary to the EU, Victoria Tzouma and Christian Thonke, Co-chairs of the EFPIA CVH Platform.
