Join us as we present our first "Whimsical Woodland of Words" Family Reading Festival during the August "Third Thursday on Main" event in historic downtown Madison, held from 5-8 PM on Thursday, August 21.
This event is a cooperative effort with Children-Read-Succeed, Huntsville and supported by the Children's Defense Fund as well as other local organizations who care about the well-being of families.
Five children's authors will be on hand to read their books, including bestselling author Matthew Paul Turner, whose latest children's book, "What Is The Bible," was written with Rachel Held Evans before she passed away. His other titles include "You Will Always Belong," and "When God Made You."
Special guest Dr. Cheryl Law will also be on hand at a dedicated tent for breast cancer survivors, giving away copies of “The Adventure Jar: A Story of Magic for Families Living with Metastatic Breast Cancer," which explores the everyday magic that can still be possible when families come together, even in times of inevitable change, uncertainty and disappointment.
Arts and crafts projects, music, dancing, book and book-ish items (think school book fair fun!) and much more will be available for families to enjoy inside and around Blue Apple Books (including under the beautiful trees on the lawn of the historic Whitworth house just to our west).
School will be in full swing by the time this event occurs, and reading routines will hopefully be a part of those routines for your family, but perhaps you - like many of us - need something fun to inspire your child (or yourself!) to read more. We are excited to welcome you and your family to enjoy this event, proudly presented by community members, volunteers, and organizations who care about YOU!
