Join us for a soap-making class! September is the perfect time to craft your own soap—just in time for thoughtful, homemade (and affordable!) Christmas gifts. 🎁 This soap takes 2-3 months to cure (cure means to solidify so it’s ready to be used), just in time for Christmas.
In this one-hour class, you’ll learn how to make a classic olive oil soap using just three ingredients: olive oil, water, and lye. It’s gentle, lathers, and feels amazing on your skin. This soap has been used for washing and shaving. (You’ll watch it being made and can ask questions throughout the process, but each attendee will not be able to make their own in this class due to limits on materials needed and safety.)
Your teacher for the evening is Kate Pforr, Unity’s Youth & Family Ministry Coordinator. With six years of soap-making experience, Kate will share helpful tips (and the mistakes she’s already made so you don’t have to) while showing you just how simple and fun it is to create soap at home. She'll teach you a bit about the science behind it, and how to do it at home safely.
You’ll leave the class with a finished bar and a list of what you’ll need to get started. Once you’ve got your supplies, you’ll be able to make soap whenever needed.
Save the date to reserve your spot—space is limited, and your $25 registration supports Unity’s youth programs.
