Body as a Home: Models, Mindfulness, Movement

Arts + Literature Laboratory and the LAB^4 community curation team welcome dancer and scholar Reenah Dixon for Models, Mindfulness, and Movement, the first of three events in the series Body as a Home: Belly Dancing and Embodiment Discoveries, where the mind, body, and soul are not seen as separate entities, on Wednesday, July 16, 7:00pm to 9:00pm. Throughout history, sages and scientists have divided our human experience into thoughts, feelings, and bodily sensations. While biology helps us understand this separation, it is human insight that accounts for the integration. In this class, we’ll model the mind as a living room—an inner space where we can use our uniquely human capacity for intention to welcome and make room for the many “selves” within us. Through mindful meditation, we’ll experience this integration from the top down, while movement practices will evoke integration from the bottom up. Come prepared to engage both body and mind. Comfortable clothing is recommended.
