The Meerkats are back in Macon to bring the happiness to crowbar Friday August 15th!
The Meerkats are improvisatory players united by a deep appreciation of Blues and American Roots music, raised in the age of Rock. Roots. Blues. Rock. Dirty Blues Rock.
But that doesn't really say it. Early in their existence, the Meerkats took to calling those moments of magic and joy playing together as "The Happiness". Soon it was apparent that
"Bringing The Happiness" was their sole (and soul) mission.
"The Happiness" means something different to each audience member, but the overwhelming audience sentiment expressed to the band members in every venue is: "I didn't know half the music you played, but it all felt so good." Usually followed by: "You guys are like brothers up there."
The Meerkats repertoire is built on traditional electric blues and Mississippi hill country blues, fat with slide guitar and harmonica. Songs shuffle and swing, often with old school R&B grooves. There are also unexpected and welcome turns - the funky southern soul of the Meters or Little Feat, the modern rhythm and blues of the Bros. Landreth or Beck, the gritty Texas storyteller blues of Ray Wiley Hubbard, the vintage country of Don Williams or Jerry Reed, and their own Meerkats originals. All of it performed with the distinctive Meerkats feel.
