DIMANCHE 5 OCTOBRE
JOHNATHAN BLAKE “My life matters”
Le son de New-York – Artiste Blue Note
Tarifs : 20 euros / 13 euros
16H30 : OUVERTURE
17H00 : CONCERT
Johnathan Blake - batterie

La presse en parle
“Johnathan Blake is the ultimate modernist. As a drummer, he’s as comfortable steering ensembles led by jazz veterans such as trumpeter Tom Harrell and saxophonist Oliver Lake as he is providing the pulse beneath rapper Q-Tip and deep-house diva Monday Michiru.” — NPR

“New York drummer Johnathan Blake delivers rhythm with a fine balance of tension and ease. Equally at home playing cutting-edge modern jazz or R&B, his credits span two decades and range from Mingus Big Band and rapper Q-Tip to an upcoming Village Vanguard residency with Bill Frisell. Yet his own-named releases have been few and far between. ... [on] Passage, his fifth solo album …Blake’s sensitivity and creative support continue to shine and his compositional skills impress. “ - Financial Times - 4 August 2023

"Band-leading drummers have a tendency to be over-present, to get in the way of the music. Not so Johnathan Blake. the 47-year old Philadelphian, who has backed everyone from Lonnie Smith to Q-Tip, remains a team player even with his own group.” - The Observer - Neil Spencer

“In Philadelphia in the late 1970s, a two-year-old Johnathan Blake was wheeled to his jazz-violinist father John Blake’s gigs - where he would sit entranced by the sight, sound and rhythms of the powerful Philly drummer Pete Vinson. Those memories helped turn Blake into one of the most creatively supportive drummers of recent times, working with the Mingus Band, Q-Tip and Dr. Lonnie Smith, Tom Harrell and Maria Schneider. … Blake’s ability to float around a groove while implying an emphatic snap that ’s felt rather than heard is the constant undertow to his intricate but always open music. …” - The Guardian - John Fordham
