This gathering is a gentle invitation to experience The Return to your body- movement meditation experience inspired by Butoh and enriched by a live ambient soundscape.
Together we create a sacred ceremony of stillness and softness. Journeying back into our bodies to re-connect, release and renew. The Return is a feeling of coming home.
About Artists:
Beetle Miyela is a multidisciplinary sound and performance artist currently based in Magandjin, Brisbane. Her practice draws from her cultural heritage, descending from Anglo-Celtic, Scandinavian and Maltese bloodlines, whilst simultaneously connecting to the innate oneness of Mother Earth. Miyela's work focuses on creating places of quiet in order to explore the primal forces of sound and movement. She offers safe, immersive and creative spaces for audiences to rest and reconnect with themselves.
Yuki Taniguchi is a Japanese Butoh dancer. Learned Butoh from Yoshito Ohno at Kazuo Ohno dance studio. And later from Seisaku and Yuri Nagaoka. Studied Psychology and Yoga in San Francisco, and trained in India, yoga, Dhrupad music and Indian martial dance Chhau, and dances its Dance of Shiva. With a passion for fostering creativity and self-discovery through dance, Yuki has been performing and teaching Butoh in Australia, inspiring participants to embrace their unique dances.
About Upcoming Performance:
“The Return”
1, 2 & 3 August
at Paint Factory, Anywhere Festival
https://anywhere.is/series/the-return/
Centering ourselves in poetic realms of imagination, like stepping into your favourite children's tale. The Return offers a sacred immersion of sound, song and story. A multilayered musical offering, to guide one back to the love within.
The Return is a 60 minute musical journey, leading viewers on a hypnotic adventure through deep forests, singing with the spirits of the trees and crossing vast oceans.
The work harnesses collaborative power of space, sound and movement to guide the audience through a transformative visual and aural experience.
The performance consists of Butoh inspired movements by Yuki Taniguchi and Cade Edac. Sustainable, spacial art installations, including Faery Portals, by Shahni Bidwell and Bonaluga Art, Bonnie Connelly. Costume design by Paper Maker, Kanako Enokida. Musical accompaniment by Julia Biers. Tea service by Caleb Janniste and soundscapes, song, storytelling and all embodied guidance by Beetle Miyela.
Together we create a sacred ceremony of stillness and softness. Journeying back into our bodies to re-connect, release and renew. The Return is a feeling of coming home.
About BUTOH:
Butoh is dance theatre art and way of life, originated in Japan after WWII and is now practiced worldwide. It is also called Dance of Darkness by its distinguishing attempts to explore the dark, unconscious, and hidden aspects of existence. Yet Butoh is not only dark, it embraces light and darkness of existence, the full spectrum of life. Emptying body and mind, let's become everything and nothing to remember the essence of who we are.
