Variations on a theme: works by Brahms, Mozart, Chopin & Scriabin Berta Brozgul, solo piano

A spectacular program of the finest works for solo piano by Mozart, Chopin, Scriabin, and Brahms.

The moody chromaticism of Mozart’s A-minor Rondo provides a perfect segue into Chopin’s Ballade no. 4, “the most exalted, intense and sublimely powerful of all Chopin’s compositions” (John Ogden).

Scriabin’s post-romantic Sonata no. 4 is followed by the dazzling Variations and Fugue on a theme of Handel by Brahms, based on Handel’s Harpsichord Suite in B-flat major.

Born in Cape Town, South Africa, Berta migrated to Australia at the age of 12. She has received many prizes in Australia as well as overseas, and was the fourth place winner in the prestigious Lev Vlassenko piano competition in Brisbane, in 2015. She was also awarded the Queensland Symphony Orchestra vote for the best concerto performance of the evening, performing Beethoven’s Fourth Piano Concerto. She currently holds a position as Associate Faculty at the Australian National Academy of Music.
