Free Short Course | Design and Implementation of Green Roofs and Walls for Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation
ABOUT THE COURSE:
Course framework: This course will be delivered within the context of the project “WASH 2025 – Green Shields: Mangroves as a Nature Based Solution for a Resilient Macao” implemented by Institute of Science and Environment at USJ and supported by WASH Foundation and Las Vegas Sands.
We are excited to offer a course that explores the design and implementation of green roofs and walls towards climate change mitigation and adaptation. This accessible and engaging program will guide participants through the fundamental concepts of green roof and walls systems, from their structural components and types to practical steps for installation and long-term care. Special emphasis will be placed on the multiple benefits green roofs and walls offer, such as improved building insulation, increased biodiversity, reduced urban heat island effect, and enhanced stormwater management.
Throughout the course, it will be highlighted real-world case studies that demonstrate how green roofs and walls are being successfully applied around the globe to address the impacts of climate change. Participants will learn how these systems contribute to both climate change mitigation—by sequestering carbon and improving energy efficiency—and adaptation, by helping cities manage extreme weather events. By showcasing examples, the course will illustrate how green roofs and walls can play a key role in building more resilient, sustainable urban environments. This is a unique opportunity to gain insight into a nature-based solution that aligns ecological integrity with urban development.
This is a FREE COURSE, Certificate of participation will be provided.
