Samuel will give a performative presentation titled "Here comes the sun", which expands upon his reflections on language and voice and their relation to the formation of subjectivity. There is a social significance to speech acts, and Samuel's work examines the specifics of these sounds and the social conditions that create them. At the heart of his work is a playful and performative use of voice; voice as carrier of rhythm, of vibration, of emotion; voice as the centre of the human self-experience of presence. Samuel will also touch upon his current research project, "Laughing Beyonsense", which explores the social dynamics of laughter in relation to structures of patriarchy and masculine relationships.
His work focuses upon the way in which our relationship to language has changed, is forever changing, within post-digital culture. He is particularly interested in how performances of language and voice are instrumental in the formation of subjectivity, specifically within certain online cultures and environments. Instances of linguistic delirium, manipulation, vocalisation, translation, misinterpretation, concatenation, reiteration and evocation act as starting points for his works. At the heart of his practice is a playful and performative use of voice. Sometimes his works make more sound than sense.
