About the event

New Dublin Voices 20th Anniversary Gala Concert: 20 Years of Colour
New Dublin Voices and its acclaimed founding conductor Bernie Sherlock present their 20th Anniversary Gala Concert, 20 Years of Colour.

New Dublin Voices and its acclaimed founding conductor Bernie Sherlock are proud and very pleased to announce their big 20th Anniversary Gala Concert, 20 Years of Colour. This will be the climax of the anniversary year's Irish tour and will reflect all the many different colours of music which New Dublin Voices has been bringing to audiences in Ireland and to countries as far away as the United States and all around Europe for twenty years.

The gala programme features truly excellent music in an eclectic mix, featuring highlights from the ten years since our tenth anniversary. There will be the Irish Premiere of Jubilate Deo by the South African composer Motshwane Pege who took First Prize in the inaugural New Dublin Voices Choral Composition Competition. The programme also includes the first ever Irish performance of the extraordinary Observer in the Magellanic Cloud by Mason Bates, a pulsating yet ethereal combination of Maori chant and choral syncopation, all marshalled by the steady pinging of a satellite far off in a distant galaxy. The choir will present Wolfram Buchenberg’s mesmeric Ich bin das Brot, Levente Gyöngyösi’s jazz-inspired Puer natus in Bethlehem, and Gabrieli’s Angelus descendit, alongside innovative arrangements of jazz and folk favourites, such as Duke Ellington's It don’t mean a Thing and Eoin Conway’s Beidh Aonach Amárach.

Other highlights include the quirky Scottish folk tale The Wee Wee Man, set by Vagn Holmboe, the American composer Greg Knauf’s beat-driven Gloria, and the haunting Die Stimme des Kindes by Finland's Jaakko Mäntyjärvi. And in a really special 20-year anniversary moment, a number of choir alumni will join New Dublin Voices on stage for Eoin Conway’s beautiful arrangement of The Parting Glass.

Founding conductor Bernie Sherlock says, “We are thrilled to invite an audience to come and join us in our celebration of twenty years. And we are excited to be both presenting premieres and revisiting beloved favourites in what promises to be an unforgettable night that showcases the passion, skill, and artistry that New Dublin Voices has shared with audiences for two decades”.

Doors open at 7.30pm. Seating allocation is on a first come first served basis. Some seating may have restricted view of the choir.
