Elementary Science Nature Club-September 2 at 1pm
Reservations Required For Attendance: Deadline August 25

(Note: Please note that this is not a walk up and join event, like the Junior Ranger program at Don Carter. We are not affliated with the park but only rent the location space. Please reserve a spot by August 25, thank you.)
Join us once a month for meetings. Our group is small with around 5-10 elementary students. Each month has a different theme. The group will gather together for a short lesson, craft, and snack. The atmosphere is very relaxed allowing students to make new friends, ask questions, and learn together.

Dates: 8/5, 9/2, 10/7, 11/4, 12/9, 1/6, 2/3, 3/3 (8 Weeks)
Time:1-2pm EST (we may run over some days til 2:15pm EST)
Locations: Nopone Community Center (Indoor Labs), Don Carter State Park (Outdoor Pavilion/Nature Walks)
Tuition: $280 Total ($35/meeting-supplies included) or $40 per individual class
Upcoming Meeting Information (September 2) @ Don Carter.
The theme of our meeting will be bees, flowers, and pollination. We will begin with a short lesson on the parts of a flower, and then we will complete a dissection of the flower, pulling apart the parts to identify each section. We will then work on our paint craft-painting a flower sun catcher with wind chimes attached. Then we will discuss the importance of bees and pollination. For our snack we will taste different types of honey and enjoy a honeycomb themed cup (honeycomb dry cereal, yellow/brown M&Ms, pretzel combs, and popcorn). Then we will create a mini bee out of clay. Our last lab will be a group pollination activity where students will bend chenille sticks onto their fingers, and then dip it in cheetos powder as they visit paper flowers.
Students will need to bring the following in their class bag: water bottle, spiral notebook (to draw a flower or bee), pencil, coloring pencils
If the student has anything bee themed, they are welcome to bring it to class. Also, if you have a favorite honey you would like us to try your welcome to bring it.

Note: Both locations will allow parents a place to walk outside and enjoy nature during the class time, and the classroom will be visible. At Don Carter we will use the outdoor pavilion and at Nopone we will use the arts/craft room with full clear windows to check on your child's lab progress. I do ask that parents stay on the location grounds in case the child needs you or needs to go to the restroom. When possible, family members are encouraged to join us on a nature walk after the class at Don Carter.
FAQ:
Can siblings attend? Each student will need to register and pay for a seat. We are limited to the amount of students we can have inside the classroom so all seats must be accounted for. Also, each student will receive their own supply bag for the day's lab.
Do you offer a discount for siblings? Sorry, each student is helping pay for the rental of the event location, the teacher, and the supply bag that will be provided.
What age should the student be? This class will cover elementary school science standards for elementary school age students. I also offer a middle school group class, if you are interested.
What prep is needed for the class? Students do not need to study for the lesson, everything they will need for the lab will be covered in the lesson and lab instructions.
What if my child has an allergy? Please let me know because some of the labs do involve edible items.
What should my child bring? Every student needs to bring a common supply kit-scissors, spiral notebook, pencil, and pack of coloring pencils. These are common supplies they will need for each class. I will provide the additional lab supplies. We will eat a snack, so students are encouraged to bring a water bottle. Most students bring a small bookbag with everything they may need just in case.
Can my child in kindergarten or 1st grade attend? Yes, this class is for elementary students. Please note the supply bags will be tailored for your child’s age. Example: If small pieces of paper need to be cut out for the lab, they will be cut out for the younger ones and not for the older elementary students.
Will I need to attend with my child? The classes will be set up for fun, and will have easy to follow instructions. Parents are welcome to stay if they like or walk nearby. I would love to rotate parent volunteers for each class to help with the labs, so please let me know if you prefer a specific date or if you wan to help.
Will you have a snack each time? Yes, I will provide a themed snack at the end of the lesson each time. These snacks will not be the healthiest but are provided for fun and to go along with the class theme. For example, we will create dirt cups with chocolate pudding, gummy worms, and oreos on the day we study bugs. Students are encouraged to bring a water bottle.
What if my child is special needs? Please reach out to
c2NpZW5jZXdpdGhjb2xsaW5zIHwgZ21haWwgISBjb20= some activities will not be appropriate or comfortable in regards to sensory needs, auditory concerns, etc so please reach out if you need special accommodations.
