Contact Improvisation class with Charlie Morrissey - Contact Improvisation is a movement practice where two or more people explore how touch, gravity, weight, and momentum can shape a dance. Partners roll, fall, balance, lift, and spiral together, responding in real time to points of contact. It’s a physically curious, playful, and rigorous form that develops listening through the body, trust, and awareness of one’s own structure in relation to others.
The class is follwed by a jam - an open space for dancing, where people come together to explore contact improvisation. Dancers of all levels of experience share the floor, listening to themselves and each other, joining and leaving dances as they wish. It’s a space for practice, play, and discovery.
Charlie Morrissey has been practicing contact improvisation for over 35 years, working with some of the founders and significant contributors to its development including Steve Paxton, Lisa Nelson, Scott Smith, Kirstie Simson, Karen Nelson, K.j. Holmes and many others.
