Mystery Valley - the newest addition to Wellington's regional parks

The Regional Council’s recent purchase of Gollans Valley Station has been cause for celebration, and has led to a range of proposals for its future as part of the East Harbour Regional Park.

But what do we know about the history of this mysterious valley, tucked away in the hills south of Eastbourne? It's been a farm, a rifle range, a refuge, and a place of feuding settlers, bootlegging, police raids, wartime bombardments, bizarre schemes that fortunately never materialised…

To learn more about the valley’s chequered past, the Historical Society of Eastbourne invites you to an illustrated talk by local historian Ali Carew on Sunday 13 July at 2pm, at the East Harbour Women’s Club, 145 Muritai Road. HSE members free, non-members by gold coin donation. Afternoon tea will be served.
