We are trying out different days for our dance and movement classes in December and January to gauge interest and when folks can attend, and we will be setting a weekly schedule in February.
All of our classes are LGBTQ+, BIPOC, persons with disabilities, all body sizes, and neurodiverse welcoming.
This class is specifically designed so folx with different disabilities and chronic pain have a class catered to them, but able-bodied folx who want some gentle movement, stretching, and strengthening in an inclusive space are also welcome to join. This class is designed to help you find some joy in movement with your body’s needs and abilities. Most of the class will be in chairs, but there will be options to stand or be on the floor. The class will guide everyone through a warm-up, gentle stretches, gentle strengthening movements/exercises, and choreographed gentle movement combinations, ending with rest and meditation. Even though this class is created for folx with disabilities and chronic pain, you can always make your own accommodations or ask the teacher how to modify the movement for your needs. Although Sara comes from a dance and movement background, she has partial disability and chronic illness. At 41 years old, Sara went into the emergency room and ended up having 9 emergency surgeries and 2 additional surgeries with specialists, all due to damage to the digestive system and reproductive organs from previously undiagnosed endometriosis. Due to being in bed for 5 months for the first 9 surgeries and the trauma of the surgeries, Sara had to regain the 50+ pounds she lost, working hard in physical therapy to build back the muscle she lost and regain her health. Although Sara seems more able bodied now, she is still living with disability. Sara is also a licensed professional counselor and dance/movement therapist with a deep empathy for medical trauma and disabilities. Sara is also a certified Alexander Technique teacher and a certified Laban Movement Analyst. Sara wanted this class when she was recovering from surgeries and is excited to offer it to others so everyone can experience the joy of movement in their body, regardless of ability or health.
