About the event

MOUNTSORREL CASTLE GUIDED WALK
Join archaeologist Mathew Morris for a guided walk around Mountsorrel Castle and find out about its notorious history and what still survives today.

The castle was relatively short-lived, existing for less than 150 years, and today all that remains of this once-mighty fortress are a few poorly understood earthworks on top of Castle Hill. Yet during its short life, it had a significant role in four military campaigns and was one of only two castles in Leicestershire to be besieged, earning itself the infamous nickname the β€˜nest of the devil’.

The walk is approx. 1km long and involves some steep paved and unpaved paths, steps and uneven ground.

Tickets: Adults Β£5, children FREE. No booking necessary. Meet at the Butter Market, Market Place, Mountsorrel LE12 7BA
