Karwa Chauth (also called Karaka Chaturthi) is observed on the Chaturthi tithi of the Krishna Paksha in the Hindu month of Kartik—in 2025, this falls on 10th October. On this day, married women undertake a strict fast from sunrise until the moonrise the following evening, without consuming food or water. They pray for the safety, longevity, and prosperity of their husbands.
According to traditional lore, Queen Veeravati’s devout fast protected her family’s welfare, and her story has inspired generations of women to honor this vrat. During Karwa Chauth, women exchange “karwas” (decorated earthen pots) with sisters and friends, apply intricate mehndi (henna), and dress in vibrant attire. At dusk, they gather to listen to the Karwa Chauth Katha, perform the tithi puja, and perform the moon-sighting ritual—viewing the moon through a sieve before looking at their husband’s face, symbolizing that their spouse is the true source of light and longevity in their life.
The fast reflects unwavering love, sacrifice, and fidelity—it strengthens the marital bond and underscores the values of devotion and communal unity. By gathering together at Geeta Bhawan, we honor this age-old tradition, share our stories, and support one another in prayer.
We invite all communities—married and unmarried women, those who wish to take part, their families, and well-wishers—to join in this sacred celebration of devotion and love. Stay tuned for further details on timing and program order.
