Artist-Led Walk with Joshua Jones

“Earth has an immense capacity for recording the passage of time. As our rapidly changing climate transforms the landscapes around us, the past becomes visible again, reminding us that the land is always actively remembering.” Emergence Magazine

Join Loughborough-based artist Joshua Jones for a guided walk exploring the cues in the landscape that shape our sense of time. Together, we’ll use drawing activities adapted from Emergence Magazine’s A Practice in Time booklet to connect with the natural world’s experience of time — thinking of time as non-mechanical, earth’s mark-making, and drawing as path.

The 4.5km circular walk begins and ends at MPND, with stops at:

• Bell Foundry Estate
• Grand Union Canal
• The Rushes
• Rectory Wildlife Garden
• Loughborough Town Centre

Expect around one hour of walking, with pauses for reflection and drawing along the way. Please note: the route includes steep bridges, potholes, and narrow passages.

• A sketchbook and pencil(or we can provide one if needed)
• Comfortable footwear suitable for walking outdoors
• A raincoat or weather-appropriate clothing

We’ll start at MPND where you can grab a hot drink and something to eat from Corita before heading out.

• Please check the weather forecast before arriving.
• If you can no longer make it, kindly cancel your ticket so someone else can join.
• Children are welcome to attend, but please note this is not designed as a family activity.
• Dogs are welcome on the walk, but only support and assistance dogs are permitted on site at MPND.
  

Joshua Jones is a visual artist based in Loughborough. He explores stories and characters related to Leicestershire’s history, integrating research, collecting, image-making, and writing into a wider filmmaking practice.
