The Institute For Art And Olfaction
932 Chung King Road, Los Angeles, United States
Join us for a hands- and noses-on session where you’ll learn about and play with aromatic materials used to create a blend of cologne. During class, you’ll be introduced to a historical perfume formula as you smell through the individual materials and final blended recreation of a historic cologne formula.
Next, you’ll experiment with blending exercises using a selection of aromatic materials to recreate these formulas or accords, learning how each material contributes to the overall olfactory portrait you create. As part of your learning process, you’ll make a few experimental blends to share with the class and take home for learning.
The experimental nature of these classes gives students a greater understanding of how individual materials perform and can be used in accords, formulas, and olfactory art. Beginners are welcome, but this class is more appropriate for those who have some previous blending experience at the Institute for Art and Olfaction.
Topics covered:
+ Reading accord formulas
+ Smelling aromatic materials and blended accords
+ Lab time dedicated to working with and learning about the accord’s palette
+ Discussion of substitutions in formulas due to new materials or new regulations
Take-Aways:
+ Technical knowledge about the aromatic materials constructing a given accord and formula
+ Greater familiarity with aromatic materials and combinations
+ Take-home experimental vials of reference accord(s) and individual blends made during class
