About the Workshop
Join LAMAG and COLA 2025 artist Olivia Booth for a hands-on, all-ages drawing class that explores the visual language of transparency. Rooted in Booth’s sculptural practice and her deep engagement with glass, this workshop invites participants to observe and translate light, layering, and translucency through drawing.
Glass is central to Booth’s work not just as a material, but as a process. The six primary “verbs” of glassmaking: slumping, blowing, torching, fusing, pulling, and casting—inform her approach to perception and transformation. These ideas serve as a conceptual backdrop for the workshop, which focuses on the act of seeing through, reflecting upon, and obscuring surfaces.
Participants will be guided through three short drawing exercises, each designed to explore a different way of representing transparency. Using a range of materials and approaches, these exercises encourage careful observation, slow looking, and mark-making as a form of meditation.
All materials will be provided.Open to all skill levels.
