About the Summer Block Party

Art Share L.A. presents its biennial Summer Block Party, where creativity meets community, a free festival celebrating the Arts District legacy. As part of our mission to create equitable access and opportunity for artists, this community celebration will honor three individuals who have been instrumental in shaping art and culture in Los Angeles and beyond.

The 2025 Legacy Award honorees represent different facets of the neighborhood's evolution:

Fabian Debora - A community artist and founder of Homeboy Art Academy, he is known for his evocative paintings that capture the immigrant and gang experiences in Los Angeles. Through his work with formerly incarcerated individuals, he leads art programs that foster healing, empowerment, and second chances.

Man One - Internationally acclaimed muralist who began painting graffiti on LA streets in 1987 and now has work in major museums, including LACMA and the Getty. The US State Department officially recognized him for promoting international understanding and cultural exchange through the arts.

Miguel Vargas - Executive Director of the Arts District Los Angeles Business Improvement District and former Arts District Little Tokyo Neighborhood Council Board President. Miguel has led public safety and community development initiatives while building bridges between longtime and new residents during the neighborhood's rapid transformation.

This year's festival features:

MUSIC & PERFORMANCES: The Paranoias, Kings Ether, Muki Brewster, DJ Vondawizard, and a special Grammy-nominated surprise guest.

Da Poetry Lounge spoken word takeover, dance performances by Heidi Duckler Dance, and art films curated by Take Your Medicine and Smile Productions.

VISUAL ARTS: Art Share L.A. presents the annual Ellsworth Artist Residency Exhibition featuring Angel Cruz, Lamar Jones, Marina, Gabe Medina, Jiaqi Peng, Mike Saijo, Bad Talents, Moti Tavassoli, and R. Tucker, located in the Main Gallery. In the Perimeter Gallery, Art Share presents Fuerza Reunida, curated by Fabian Debora, featuring artists from Homeboy Art Academy and in the Ellsworth Alumni Gallery, a solo exhibition by Pavel Acevedo.

OUTDOOR COMMUNITY ACTIVATIONS: Live painting by 8 local artists, 30+ curated artisan vendors, a beer garden in partnership with Arts District Brewing, and art installations by local artists.

WHO WE ARE: The mission of Art Share L.A. is to create equitable access and opportunity for artists by providing a creative environment for them to live, work, develop, perform, and exhibit. We work to eliminate barriers that limit many BIPOC, disabled, LGBTQ+, low-income, and historically marginalized communities from finding success in the creative economy.

AFFORDABLE HOUSING: Providing 30 affordable live/work lofts for artists in our 28,000 sq ft converted 1928 textile warehouse, helping protect local artists against displacement in one of the nation's most expensive rental markets.

CREATIVE ECONOMY: Connecting artists to paid opportunities through our galleries, residency programs, and professional development workshops while exhibiting over 430 artists annually.

ART SHARING: Platforming emerging visual and performing artists in the heart of the DTLA Arts District through our barrier-eliminating programming, fostering community engagement and cultural exchange.

Art Share L.A. is the only 100% affordable housing building in the Arts District, demonstrating that community-centered arts organizations can weather neighborhood development while maintaining their mission-driven focus.
