About this Event

This is a two day event. Join Dr. Joshuaa Allison-Burbank as he demonstrates a human slaughter of a wether from the Agri-Nature Center on April 23rd at 12pm. On Friday April 25th at 10am Josh will demonstrate how to break down the wether and cook it in a pit.

Dr. Joshuaa D. Allison-Burbank, PhD, CCC-SLP, CPH, is not only a speech-language pathologist and researcher but also a dedicated farmer committed to food sovereignty and Indigenous land stewardship. As a citizen of the Diné and Acoma Pueblo Nations, his agricultural work is deeply rooted in traditional ecological knowledge, emphasizing the interconnectedness of language, culture, and food systems.

Dr. Allison-Burbank’s farming efforts center on revitalizing ancestral growing practices, cultivating heirloom seeds, and fostering sustainable foodways that nourish both body and spirit. He is passionate about using agriculture as a means of healing intergenerational trauma, reconnecting Indigenous youth with the land, and promoting self-sufficiency within Native communities. Through hands-on mentorship, he teaches traditional farming techniques that honor Indigenous ecological principles, ensuring that knowledge is passed down to future generations.

His work intersects with his broader commitment to community health, recognizing that food is medicine and that access to traditional foods plays a vital role in holistic well-being. By integrating language and cultural teachings into agricultural practice, Dr. Allison-Burbank contributes to a movement that sees land stewardship as inseparable from Indigenous identity, resilience, and sovereignty.
