Into the Jungle
The Piñata is synonymous with Lantinx culture. They represent moments of change in a person's life. Not only are they indicators of change in a person's life, but they can also be symbols of change within society. This workshop is designed to share more of my culture with everyone. Into the Jungle will show you new techniques that will help you develop your skills and allow you to take what you learn here to all areas of your creative process.
Each student will have the opportunity to display their piñata in the upcoming exhibition on September 12, 2025, at the Firehouse Art Center.
Students will create a mini piñata (roughly a 12’x12’12’ piñata). Students will be working with a hot glue gun, glue, scissors, and a razor blade, so all students must be over the age of 13. All minors under 17 must be accompanied by an adult and must pay the fee in order to participate in the workshop.
Instructor
Saxon Martinez is a mixed-media artist who currently resides in Fort Collins, Colorado. Saxon's practice is the exploration of his own identity through the lens of the piñata motif by creating anthropomorphic sculptures that represent self-portraits. Saxon Martinez received his Master of Fine Arts at the University of North Texas in Denton with a concentration in sculpture. Saxon has been teaching at university level for the past 5 years. He has shown his work at the Latino Cultural Center in Dallas, TX, the College of Sequoias in Visalia, CA, and Design
Week in Sydney, Australia.
Fee: $80
This fee covers the materials and equipment for one workshop.
